Chester

Chester when we first picked him up.

Chester well after surgery with funds donated by the VCA and the Vizsla Rescue Fund.

Chester was found wondering the streets of Amarillo by an elderly lady on Social Security and a fixed income.  He appeared to be in bad physical condition, possibly hurt in an accident.  He was neutered and probably about 6 years old.  After feeding Chester (then known as Brownie) canned meat and canned vegetables for several weeks, she contacted VCA.  We mentored her for several days and, finally, she came to the decision that she was financially unable to care for Chester and his physical problems.  We took him in for foster care while we searched for an approved foster home closer to the Regional Coordinator, then in the San Antonio, Texas area.  Chester has one of the best dispositions of any vizsla I have ever known.  He loves to go for rides, have his ears rubbed, and due to his physical limitations, is a total couch potato.  Since technically, he was a stray, we attempted to locate his original owners.  We found that he had be "rescued" from the highway in the Texas Panhandle and those people did not want him either.  We sent Chester to San Antonio for foster care.  His foster family had him checked and realized that he did not have good control over his back legs, a birth defect.  He was also full of buckshot.  After very expensive surgery, paid for by donations from the VizslaTalk list, the VCA, and other local vizsla clubs, Chester is a happy, pain free vizsla today.  And his foster family????  Well, they decided they couldn't get along without him and he has his forever home.

Chester crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2002.  He is missed by his adoptive family daily.  He now greets other Vizslas on their way to the bridge……
